About
Camino Research Institute (CRI) is the research arm of our parent nonprofit, Camino Salud, a 501(c)(3) that primarily serves Latino immigrants in the Charlotte area. Since 2021, we have been actively conducting various research projects with Latino communities across NC.
Mission
To generate new research and critical insights on Latino communities living in the United States and place this knowledge in the hands of the community for advocacy and change.
Approach
Drawing from the tradition of Community Based Participatory Research, Camino Research Institute aims to co-produce knowledge with the Latino community. We develop long-term relationships with community leaders to understand which research projects are most needed or relevant for the community’s benefit.
What We Do
Over the years, Camino Research Institute collaborated with dozens of nonprofits, academic researchers, and community leaders on different projects, including:
- Community Needs Assessments
- Voting Data Analysis
- Program Evaluation
- Focus Groups
- Census Data Analysis
- Seminars
- Oral Histories
Mentoring the Future
We actively mentor and provide internship and volunteer opportunities for students to gain experience and contribute to CRI’s mission. When possible, we co-author reports, presentations, and scholarly manuscripts with interns to help build their skills and careers. We aspire every intern to adopt the CBPR ethos wherever they go.
