Turnout rate is ballots cast divided by registered voters in the state's files for each November election, so each year uses its own registration snapshot.
Odd-year elections are municipal only. Many residents have no race on the ballot, so their rates are not comparable with presidential or midterm years. Charlotte's municipal elections were moved to 2022, so the 2021 rate leaves out most of the county.
Hispanic means the voter's ethnicity is recorded as Hispanic, whatever their race. Other combines Asian, American Indian, multiracial, Pacific Islander and other. Unknown is race not recorded.
Party is the voter's registered party. Other parties includes Libertarian, Green, Constitution and other small parties.
Voting method: in person covers election day and curbside, early voting covers one-stop early voting and absentee curbside, mail is absentee by mail, and provisional and transfer ballots are grouped as other. Method is only recorded for people who voted.
Groups with fewer than 30 registered voters show no rate (marked †). One 2020 voter has an invalid birth date, so that voter appears in totals but in no age group.
